CHAPTER 12

Melanie felt a twinge in her stomach as she lay beside Wesley who was out cold, snoring loudly. She nudged him to get him to stop snoring as she did every night even when they were teenagers. She tried to ignore the feeling in the pit of her stomach, but she couldn’t. She jumped out of bed, hurriedly to the bathroom, lifted the toilet and threw up. She stayed in the bathroom for about twenty minutes to make sure she didn’t have to throw up again. When she opened the door Wesley was sitting up in the bed, arms behind his head, smiling.

“What are you smiling about?” she asked.

“You’re pregnant.” Wesley said still smiling.

“You don’t know that Wesley, it could be a stomach virus or something.”

“I doubt that, I’ve been watching you baby. Your appetite has changed you haven’t had a period since before we got married and now you’re throwing up. I know it’s been a while since you had a baby, but all the signs are there.”

Melanie thought about everything Wesley was saying. He was right it has been over a month or so since I had a period. She’s been eating more lately than ever, and now the morning sickness which is a sure sign of pregnancy.

“You’re right I’ll make an appointment in the morning.” She said.

“Good and I’ll go with you.” Wesley said.

“Aren’t you supposed to do Christmas decorating with Jeremiah?”

“No we’re doing that Saturday, that way we’ll have more father son time.”

“Oh okay well don’t you have to work?”

“Why are you acting like you don’t want me to go with you?”

“I’m not, but I don’t want you making any special sacrifices for me honey.”

“Melanie I’m not Richard, I’ll never put my job over you, you should know that by now. I want to be at this appointment with you and I’m going to be end of discussion.”

Melanie didn’t say anything else about the issue. She crawled in the bed, cuddled with Wesley, and kissed his lips.”

“I love you!” she said.

“I love you too!” Wesley responded.

Melanie and Wesley went to see her gynecologist that morning after they dropped Jeremiah off at school for his last day before the holiday vacation. Melanie’s appointment was scheduled for ten she wanted to be early since she was squeezed in between an eight o-clock appointment and a twelve o-clock appointment. It took all of thirty minutes once she was called back for it to be confirmed that she was over four weeks pregnant.

“I can’t believe I’m going to have a baby at my age.” Melanie said as they got in the car.

“What you mean at your age, you’re thirty two that ain’t old baby and I know I’m not old.” Wesley commented.

“I know I’m not old Wesley, but I feel too old to be having a baby.”

“We’re blessed baby just be thankful.”

“Jeremiah is going to be so excited when he finds out.”

“I think he should be the first person we tell.”

“Absolutely because if he’s not he’ll feel betrayed.”

“Let’s go pick him up from school since he gets out early anyway.
